| The Boggo Road
Busway is an elevated roadway being constructed at Wooloongabba
in Brisbane, it consists of 12 headstocks that are 40m long,
2.5m wide and 1.9m high with radiussed ends, approximately 7m
high with a precast plank deck, and parapet. Work commenced
on this project in June 2007 and it is due for completion in
June 2009.
RMD Australia was contracted to design and
supply the Rapidshor shoring system, Megashor shoring system,
Super Slim Soldiers as bearers, LVL joists and handrails for
the headstocks.
The headstocks at piers 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11
were a standard Rapidshor solution based generally on an 1800
x 1500mm grid and providing 1m clearance outside the sideform
bracing with an additional 4m of deck each end for post tensioning.
The ends of two of these headstocks encroached on exclusion
zones and were required to be cantilevered. RMD also designed
and supplied 3 sets of radiussed end forms with a bevel at the
bottom, which attached to the side forms.
Pier 6 required a two lane access 4.8m high
through the shoring to allow traffic to pass underneath. This
was achieved by the use of Megashor support towers supporting
600 UB structural beams with Rapidshor, Super Slim Soldiers
and LVL.
For Pier 5 it was intended to reuse the steel
beams from Pier 6 but it was decided to use a full pre-cambered
Megashor solution to save time. The loads encountered dictated
the use of standard Megashor support towers with doubled up
Megashor Beams replacing the 610UB beams and special lateral
angle bracing. As the headstock had falls in both directions
RMD designed and supplied for sale special lateral bracing,
steel packers and rubber matting. All of the headstocks have
been poured and stripped providing an excellent finish to the
delight of the joint venture.
The Thiess Contractors Pty Ltd and SKM
JV also used RMD Australia to support the Bundamba Waste Water
Treatment Plant in 2008.
