The services provided by RMD Darwin regarding the design and
supply of formwork and the response times for design and supply
due to changes in the Brownfield environment were first class. Requests by our support staff on Groote were dealt within
an expeditious manner at all times.
The set up to drawings proceeded at very acceptable speed
and the buildability of the system provided was also exceptional.

Project Information
Gemco Mine is just
off the Emerald River in the Northern Territory, it is a
coastal mine about 630km East-Southeast
of Darwin. It is one of the easternmost mines in the Northern
Territory.
Gemco Mine is primarily a manganese mine,
but apart from the manganese there are approximately 52 other
metals, minerals
and precious stones mined there.
This project involved a large expansion
to an already exciting refinery for the Gemco Corporation
on Groote Eylandt. RMD
products and engineering support were required to make this
project possible and in turn a success. Large concrete slabs
(plinths) plus columns to support the slabs needed to be
constructed up to15m high in mid air. These were built to
carry large machinery parts for the ore refinery process.
Special shutters needed to be fabricated
for atypical columns. The steel shutters were fabricated
through RMD Australia
to act as the formwork for large columns and piers. Other
products used were Super Slim Soldiers, Rapidshor, Alform
Beams, Bar Tie accessories and Rapidstage Scaffold.
This project required extensive innovation
in design due to the fact that the JMS Civil were under strict
time constraints.
The RMD Australia design team was up to the task, providing
all of the design work to meet their schedule.
JMS Civil hadn’t previously been a customer of RMD
Darwin and had considered bringing materials from Townsville
which is their main base. As a result of numerous meetings
over a six month period JMS Civil ended up using RMD Australia
products for the entire project.
