Australia was engaged to provide purpose made special steel
Safety Screens for fall protection for workers and against potential
site work debris falling from the elevated floor levels to the
general public regions below for both of the towers in this
multi-storey building.
The project comprised two separate buildings
of 10 floors to be screened simultaneously. All up approximately
2,500m² of safety screens were utilised across both buildings.
The screen system was based on 10m x 4m modules with smaller
auxiliary screens at 0.6m and 0.9m bolted to safely and completely
cover the building perimeter. Each consisted of two main masts
which in turn were attached to fabricated floor brackets anchored
through RMD Super Slim Soldiers. The strength of the main masts
allow the screens to extend to 4.5 – 5.0m above the deck
to which they are attached and safely withstand wind forces
for high multi-storey construction.
The lightweight structure of the special steel
fabrication made these screens quick to fabricate and install.
The screens have a capability to typically protect two floor
levels plus provide protection for the live deck on multi-storey
constructions with a typical floor to floor height of approximately
3m.
The placing of the screens is a simple and
quick procedure where the crane tower is utilised to sequentially
lift and place the screens around the perimeter of the building
with minimal labour force required.
In addition to the use of Safety Screens the
safe and highly productive Airodek Prop and Panel system was
utilised through the soffit regions of the multi-storey building.
The Airodek Panels were lined with plywood to provide the class
2 finish required by the client.
Both systems proved very popular with both
the customer, System Formwork and the builder, Hansen Yuncken
Pty Ltd in providing simple and safe construction materials
for high speed production.
RMD Australia also worked with System
Formwork on the Precinct – Stage 1 project (September
2007 to May 2008), the Burnside Car Park project (May 2007 to
September 2007) and the Finders University Buildings (May 2007
to September 2007).
